  • Monthly Report: Coastal Clean-Up and Environmental Awareness Drive – June 2025 Location: Liido and Shangani Beaches, Banadir Region, Somalia

In June 2025, the Somali Aid and International Development Organization (SIADO) continued its environmental protection efforts with a second round of coastal clean-up and public education activities at Liido and Shangani beaches in the Banadir region.

This month’s campaign focused on tackling the ongoing issue of shoreline pollution, especially the dangers posed by plastic debris to marine ecosystems and the aesthetic value of Somalia’s coastline. The initiative emphasized the growing need for community-driven action to safeguard the coastal environment.

A large number of volunteers, including youth and local stakeholders, participated in removing plastic litter and other waste materials. Their efforts helped restore the cleanliness and beauty of the beaches while preventing further harm to sea life.

In addition to the physical clean-up, the campaign served as a platform for public engagement and environmental education, highlighting responsible waste disposal practices and the importance of protecting marine environments.

Photos captured during the campaign reflect the strong community turnout and the collective impact of the clean-up effort. The activity underscores SIADO’s ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability and civic responsibility in the Banadir region.

This impactful program is proudly supported by the Australian Somali diaspora, whose contributions continue to empower positive change across Somali communities.
